Buying gifts for other people is one of my favorite things to do and wedding gift are the most enjoyable. Seeing all the items on the bride and groom’s registry, getting an idea of their personal tastes, and imagining what their cute little newlywed house is going to look like is so fun! But if you’re anything like me, you may feel like you have to spend your life’s savings to buy a “good enough” gift usually because the special couple is close friends or family or because you remember getting married and starting from scratch. Wedding gifts are definitely a huge help to a young couple but every little bit helps. No need to spend money you don’t have.
The first thigs to remember is to try and buy something off of the couple’s registry. They took the time to make a list of things they need and like, so do them a favor and use the list! Of course gift cards to the registry store of choice or restaurants or money are always acceptable.
Many stores that offer wedding registry also have store coupons. Kohls, Macys, and Bed, Bath, & Beyond have store flyers, mail, and internet coupons. These coupons will often give you a certain percentage off your total price or an individual item. This will allow you to still buy a very nice gift but save money at the same time.
Internet shopping nowadays is like catalog shopping was 50 years ago. There are so many advantages like time and savings. Pull up the couples registry online and see if there are any special sales. (Many items on the list may be “purchase online only” anyways) Websites like EBay or Amazon may have an exact item from the couples list but at a cheaper price. Just remember that returns may not be feasible for gifts purchased on random websites.
Lastly, there are 3 things to remember when looking for a card and gift wrap.
1. Take advantage of store’s complimentary wrapping services.
2. Look for the 99 cent section, sale items, or shop the Dollar store.
3. Recycle and reuse bags that have been given to you, but make sure they are still in givable shape.
